Greg Ng
Greg Ng is a Business Analyst at Transpower New Zealand, where he supports the Operations Division in solving tomorrow’s problems today.
His work spans enterprise capability planning, organisational strategy, data analytics, reporting, emerging technologies, and building the capabilities of tomorrow through AI adoption, helping to align business outcomes with technology while accelerating delivery in one of the world’s fastest-growing and most critical industries. In just a few years as a Business Analyst, Greg has progressed from an early career practitioner to a contributor to analysis that informs enterprise capability and capital planning decisions involving investments of tens of millions of dollars.
This experience has shaped his belief that successful Business Analysts are distinguished not by the techniques they know, but by the outcomes, impact, and value they create.
Greg brings a unique perspective shaped by a small-town New Zealand upbringing, global experiences, and a migrant family legacy. He is passionate about cross-cultural storytelling and connecting strategy, people, and delivery to help organisations make better decisions.
After returning to New Zealand, Greg completed a Master of Business Analysis at Victoria University of Wellington. He also co-founded BA Career alongside Sophie Chen, a community dedicated to supporting aspiring and early-career Business Analysts as they enter and grow within the technology industry. A recognised speaker and mentor, Greg has presented at NZ Tech Rally and Summer of Tech New Zealand and has supported numerous aspiring and early-career professionals in building successful careers in business analysis and technology.
Workshop: Outcomes, Impact, and Value: BA Career Growth in the Age of AI
We learn requirements elicitation, process modelling, user stories, and frameworks. We collect certifications and methodologies in the belief that mastering the craft will accelerate our careers.
Yet organisations rarely reward us for producing great artefacts. They reward us for creating outcomes, driving impact, and delivering value.
AI is compressing the time it takes to produce analysis artefacts. Outputs that once took days can now be generated in minutes.
That time back is not the point. What matters is what you do with it. The BAs who use that speed to get to the right conversation faster, with something tangible on the table, are the ones shaping decisions rather than documenting them.
What AI cannot compress is judgment — the ability to identify the right problem, cut through organisational noise, and align stakeholders around what actually matters. That is becoming the primary source of BA value.
This session draws on a real journey — from starting as a BA to contributing analysis that informs capital investment decisions worth tens of millions of dollars — to explore the mindset shifts that make such impact possible.
Whether you are early in your career or an experienced practitioner, you will leave with a clearer understanding of how to use AI to accelerate your analysis, how to identify the levers that actually move outcomes, and how to show up to the right conversations with the right things on the table.
