Presentation: Agentic AI and the Evolving Role of the Business Analyst as an Agent Orchestrator
The Business Analysis profession is at an inflection point. The mechanical work that consumes most of a BA’s and QA’s day — decomposing business cases into user stories, formatting acceptance criteria, generating test cases, populating Jira — can now be automated end to end by a pipeline of intelligent agents.
This presentation is a real-life practitioner account of BAs designing and building an agentic pipeline. Three specialised AI agents, governed by plain-text instruction files and deterministic execution tools, take a business case from initial submission to a Jira-ready backlog of IIBA-compliant user stories and TMMi-standard test cases in under five minutes. The same work previously took two to three days.
What makes this relevant to BAs specifically is not the technology — it is the control and design mechanism. These agentic pipelines are governed entirely by plain-text Markdown files: a .md that acts as the agent’s operating manual, a REQUIREMENTS.md that serves as a living design journal and audit trail, and an ARCHITECTURE.md that blueprints how agents interact. Writing these files requires no coding ability, just BA expertise. It requires exactly the skills BAs already have: clear process thinking, structured documentation, and decision logic.
The BA’s role is not disappearing; it is shifting from producing deliverables to orchestrating the agents that produce them. The practitioners who recognise this equivalence first will define what the profession looks like.
