Workshop: AI and the Future BA: From Requirements to Reasoning
AI is changing the way we work — and that includes the role of the business analyst. In a world where AI can write user stories, generate documentation, and even recommend decisions, what remains essential for the BA? In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore the shift from capturing requirements to shaping how intelligent systems think — designing logic and behaviors that are explainable, trustworthy, and aligned with business needs. As AI becomes embedded in everyday platforms — from CRMs to claims engines — BAs must guide when it acts, how it reasons, and how its outputs are understood. Through a case study and breakout activity, we’ll evaluate the emerging AI Business Analyst role and identify practical skills that will define the BA of tomorrow.
Workshop objectives:
- Sharing real life examples to help understand how AI-enabled systems are reshaping the BA role, influencing how we document, analyse, and communicate — and how tools like GPT can support (but not replace) those responsibilities.
- Explore the evolving role of the “AI Business Analyst”, with practical examples of how AI tools and capabilities affect our responsibilities and decision-making.
- Apply a reasoning lens to a real-world customer experience case, identifying where logic, transparency, and alignment were missing — and how BAs could have addressed them.
- Use a practical framework to evaluate BA activities from the analyst’s perspective — identifying which tasks can be: – Automated by AI, – Augmented through AI collaboration, – Retained as human-led, judgment-based work.
- Identify future-ready BA capabilities, including prompt design, explainability, and logic supervision — and reflect on which are most relevant to their own work.
Expected takeaways
- Recognise how reasoning — not just documentation — is becoming a core BA competency in AI-enabled environments.
- Be able to assess their own tasks through a practical automation framework: what to automate, augment, or retain.
- Understand where and how prompting tools like GPT can support analysis work, without replacing BA judgment or context.
- Begin to explore how BAs contribute to the design of AI-enabled systems, particularly in shaping logic, guiding decisions, and promoting transparency.
- Leave with a list of future-ready BA capabilities and a stronger sense of how to grow their role in an evolving digital landscape.
