Jason Oliver
Jason Oliver has worn the Business Analyst hat for over 20 years, as well as being certified in other areas: CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), and CAP (Certified Analytics Professional). He also holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa. Career-wise, he is currently in the public sector but has also worked in the telecom, logistics, health, and academic sectors.
Jason has presented many times at local IIBA chapter events in Ottawa, Canada, and this is his first time presenting further afield for the IIBA.
As a voracious reader, he has read close to 100 books about behavioural science and pop psychology in the past decade. He has published a book of his own, “Diamond Min(e)d”, in 2024. His favourite authors (and influences) include Adam Grant, the Heath Brothers, and Charles Duhigg.
He is an ardent follower of technological developments, including and especially AI.
Jason is very much into a healthy lifestyle, staying physically fit by regular biking and gym-going, and preparing all sorts of amazing recipes at home. He has traveled to several places both as part of his work and for leisure, including all over the UK, Ireland, Western Europe, and even Brazil. He lives in Ottawa, Canada, with his wife and two daughters.
Presentation: The BA at the Dawning of the Fourth Industrial Revolution: none other than…drum roll…A.I.
Do you ever worry that you may be “working yourself out of a job” by embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in your BA work? Fear not – for the selective and shrewd use of AI can be a great enhancer and the trusted ally of humankind.
Accordingly, this presentation will bring out the intertwined themes of AI to enhance the Business Analyst’s productivity, as well as AI on the solution delivery side. Applied judiciously, one may regard it, as a symbiotic relationship, or a virtuous cycle!
We will delve into selected parts of the BABOK v3 and their relationship with AI endeavours, including stakeholder identification, elicitation, requirements prioritization, solution verification and validation, and more. You will discover where the use of AI is appropriate to augment the BA functions, and where more human BA judgement is required. This, incidentally, is a strong parallel to the solution implementation side of the equation; as the BA, you must exercise good judgement as to which functions AI will assist users with. On that note, the presentation also speaks to the crucial importance of ethics in AI; we get into the awareness and avoidance of bias, the need to maintain privacy, uphold transparency, and prevent malicious users from cyber-jacking AI solutions for nefarious purposes. Just remember one thing: AI can be a great benefit in automating the parts of a framework, but it can’t help you determine what that framework should be in the first place! For strategy remains the purview of us humans.
