Wellington Presentation: The journey of a failed Business Analyst

In an era where AI is mastering art, video, research, programming, and even resume building, original content creation nears net‑zero cost. Much like the robots that transformed manufacturing in the 1980s, AI now threatens to reshape knowledge work at scale.

Jon brings decades of experience leading Business Analysts (BAs) and Product Managers (PMs) across startups, public and not for profit sectors. He’s guided successful business exits and led major transformations.  He’s also learned the lessons of failure, rigorously analysing why initiatives fall short.

While there’s no silver bullet, Jon’s blend of hard‑won lessons and strategic insight equips teams to be recognized and valued. He shares both successes and setbacks to help BAs and PMs align with AI‑driven realities and ensure their roles remain indispensable.

The rise of AI poses both a critical challenge and opportunity for practice and portfolio leaders. Developing the next generation of analysts means empowering them to adapt, lead change, and excel in a workplace where AI handles routine tasks and humans bring context, creativity, and strategic thinking.

Auckland Presentation: Historic Failures and Future Instruments

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how governments and large-scale organisations yet many still struggle with inequity, inefficiency, and the invisibility of outcomes.  In the public sector, these challenges carry particular weight as systems and models affect real lives.

As Chair of IIBAs board of directors, and a transformation lead in public sector IT, Jon operates at the intersection of predictive analytics and community focused outcomes. His passion is ensuring that AI systems are efficient and ethical.

Jon will reflect on past failures, and how lessons learned can inform stronger, more equitable AI today.  Introducing emerging tools/instruments that have the potential to empower teams to build AI-systems that serve communities with clarity, fairness, and accountability.
