Maria Montgomery

With over 30 years of experience delivering large-scale business transformation programs, I have witnessed firsthand the evolving role of business analysts (BAs) in navigating complex projects.

As a strategic business leader, coach, trainer, and international speaker, I have built and established successful business analysis practices. As a past leader, I played a key role in establishing the BA practice at UniSuper, laying strong foundations that contributed to its success. While no longer in a leadership role at the time, the practice later received the IIBA Business Analysis Practice of the Year 2023 award—an achievement reflecting our lasting impact.

Recently, I spoke in Tokyo about the critical role of BAs in driving business success and how business analysis practices evolve at different maturity levels.

With over 15 years of experience across superannuation, insurance, financial services, health, logistics, and aviation, I am passionate about helping organisations build strong delivery capabilities. My expertise spans challenging transformations, entrepreneurship, and consulting for startups.

I am dedicated to equipping individuals and organisations with the RIGHT skills. Holding Agile Analysis (IIBA) and PRINCE2 certifications, I recently completed NLP and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Practitioner accreditation—valuable both professionally and as a parent.

Migrating from Serbia at 15, I quickly adapted to a new culture, learning resilience through complex challenges. Today, I guide individuals and organisations in solving problems and discovering better ways of working.

Outside of work, I embrace motherhood, raising a 21-year-old daughter and a 24-year-old son who keep me on my toes!

Presentation: Assessing and Advancing BA Maturity: A Roadmap of Continuous Improvement!

In today’s evolving business world, BA maturity is crucial for organisational success. With years of experience building BA practices, this session will guide you through assessing and advancing BA maturity for continuous improvement.

Drawing on my hands-on experience building Business Analysis practices, I’ll present a roadmap for continuous improvement. Strategies include fostering learning, implementing tailored training, encouraging team collaboration, and refining BA processes. You’ll learn to align BA maturity with organizational goals to enhance value delivery and efficiency.

  • Actionable steps for assessing their BA maturity levels and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Tools and techniques for driving continuous improvement in BA practices.
